Models Own Polish For Tans Pt2 - Review & Swatches

Thursday, 30 April 2015

PR Sample

Happy Thursday everyone. I am so ready for the weekend to come around, although the idea that it will be May tomorrow is a little scary.

Today I have the new Polish For Tans Pt2 collection by Models Own for you to swoon over. Last year when the original Polish For Tans were released (review here) I was more than a little obsessed with them. I think I wore them all constantly during July.

Models Own Polish For Tans Nail Polish Beach Hut, Cocktail Hour,
Sarong Wrap, Malibu Pink &  Turquoise Sea

The 5 new polishes being added to the collection are beautiful and all but 1 of them are a true neon (glow under blacklight).

The formula of these polishes was a lot smoother than the previous 5 and I found that this made application much easier. They all needed 2 coats bar Sarong Wrap (yellow) which needed a third, none of the swatches have topcoat on.

Beach Hut is a super neon Tangerine Orange. This is the kind of colour you want on your nails when you're on Holiday as it will make you look so much more tanned that you are.

Cocktail Hour is a neon Coral Red. Models Own do this shade so well (Hedonist I'm looking at you). I will wear this colour to death over the summer, and it's my fave toe nail colour for holidays.

Sarong Wrap is Models Own first Yellow for a long time. It leans neon but looks like lemon on your nails. I adore it! The only sad thing is it needed 3 coats, however for such a gorgeous shade, I don't mind.

Malibu Pink is a neon Barbie Pink and I can see this shade being worn by girly girls. As a pink lover this is a sickly sweet as I like my neons and I am already wearing this as a full mani (yes it happens).

Lastly is Turquoise Sea. This bright Blue (not a true neon) doesn't look super turquoise to me, however that's just being picky.

Like last years Polish For Tans (review here) I love these polishes and have no doubt that they will be best sellers for Models Own. The formula trumps the originals and the colours are interesting with there being something for everyone.

You can buy the Polish For Tans Pt2 collection for £4.99 each on the;

  • 1st May online at ModelsOwn.com (offers international shipping)
  • 2nd May in all Models Own Bottleshops, check here for your nearest one
  • 6th May in all Superdrug stores nationwide

Here are all the Polish for Tans together ... look how pretty!

So what do you think? Tell me your fave colour and if you'll be buying them. I love to read comments from you.

CM Handmade UK - Swatches & Review Part 2

Wednesday, 29 April 2015

Last Wednesday I reviewed 4 beautiful CM Handmade UK indie nail polishes (here) and promised a second edition ... so here it is.

CM Handmade UK Nail Polish

Today I have 4 beautiful polishes to show you; a creme, a glitter and 2 shimmery frosts.

First up is Baby's Dream, this pale sky blue is beautiful and required 2 coats for the swatches below.

Next up is Twinkle, a holo silver glitter bomb containing micro and large holo hex glitters in a clear base. I used 1 coat over Baby's Dream.

I added a Matte topcoat to show off the glitters better and loved the finish. The holo disappears and you're left with a mani that would be perfect for Elsa's or Cinderella's nails.

Grace is a stunning turquoise-teal shimmery frost and looks beautiful on it's own. I used 3 coats (to deepen the colour) for this swatch.

Sea Through Green is a really unusual polish. It's a stunning chartreuse colour that has a yellow shimmer to it. I used 3 coats for the same reason as Grace. This is definitely my fave from this bunch.

Binky London - Review & Nail Art

Tuesday, 28 April 2015

PR Sample

I am glad to report that there has been no frozen-style snow storms in my area of the world today (confused, then read yesterdays post here for clarification). However there has been a polish storm of sorts, I've found myself the happy recipient of lots of lovely parcels these last few days and have some of them to show to today. ... imagine if polish actually rained from the sky, now that's weather I wouldn't mind being caught in.

Binky London is a brand I have seen around thanks to the lovely Lauren of The Naily Mail. Until I was sent these samples, I had not thought to buy any. I don't really know why, I think it's because I tend to pick my polish up from shops and I had not seen these in any Superdrug or Boots near me. However I am now kicking myself because these are lovely polishes; the colours, quality and drying time are all great and I am planning to purchase a load more soon.

Binky London was created by Alexandra Felstead of Made in Chelsea fame. Confession time, I have never watched an episode of Made In Chelsea. Not only does Binky London create these amazing nail polishes, but they also do a whole host of other beauty products for a great price.

I decided to single swatch these colours, 1 for time and the 2nd because I am a big lazy bones. However it gave me a good idea of which colours looked good together (all of them) and ended up as the inspiration to my floral nail art below.

Bright Pink, Lemon Drizzle, Sky Blue and Forget Me Not are the most perfect colours for spring/summer. All required 2 coats apart from Lemon Drizzle which needed an extra one. Bright Pink has a shimmer to it and the rest are all cremes.

Binky London Nail Polish in Bright Pink, Lemon Drizzle, Sky Blue and Forget Me Not

Gold Rush, Marrakesh and Black are a little subdued compared to the previous 4, however they are all gorgeous and I particularly love Gold Rush. Marrakesh is a great example of the Pantone Color of the Year 2015 - Marsala and you'll find it popping up again on my blog before long. I used 2 coats of Gold Dust and Marrakesh, 3 for Black.

Binky London Nail Polish in Gold Rush, Marrakesh & Black

For my nail art I used Gold Rush, Black, Bright Pink, Lemon Drizzle, Sky Blue and Forget Me Not. I have been wanting to do some black outline roses for a while and the combination of these colours was perfect for the flowers. I love this look, it's super fun and I am so glad I got to use as many of these polishes as possible.

You can buy Binky London nail polishes here for £2.95 and I strongly suggest you go and have a little spree. They sometimes do flash sales where you can pick products up from 99p, so it's always worth keeping an eye out if you're looking for even more of a bargain.

Collection - New Up To 7 Day Wear Nail Polish Collection Sneak Peak

Monday, 27 April 2015

PR Samples

Happy Monday, hope you had a nice weekend. Firstly can someone please tell me what has happened to the weather? A friend of mine even tweeted that there was snow (yes you heard that right ... snow) falling where she lived. I am pretty sure if snow started coming down where I lived I'd be looking for a talking snowman and a magic storm over the North Mountain.

Today I came home to an amazing parcel from Collection and have some amazing polish news that will brighten up your day. I received their complete brand new Up To 7 Day Wear Nail Polish collection, plus their new Long Lasting Nail Effects collection and a new 2in1 Top & Base Coat.

Since I rediscovered Collection in the summer of 2014 (just after their re-brand) I have been a big fan of them. Obviously the nail polishes are my fave, but their other makeup products such as their eye shadow palettes are amazing quality at a fab price. These new polishes look amazing and if I can get even 4-5 days wear out of them I will be happy.

There are 27 colours in the new Up To 7 Day Wear range. Here they are!

These 7 new Long Lasting Nail Effect polishes will complement the range above and I am really interesting in trying out their matte topcoat. I am always grateful to try out a new base/top coat so I will make sure to let you know how it does.

These are not out until May but I will have some swatches coming your way (I can't promise all) before then, so watch this space.

Friday's Fashion Feature - ASOS Mixed Pattern Tunic Inspired Barry M Nail Art

Friday, 24 April 2015

So today I bring you another installment of Friday's Fashion Feature (February's, Valentine Special, March's). This monthly feature has to be my fave as it's a great challenge to create a nail look from a piece of clothing.

As soon as I saw this Vero Moda mixed pattern tunic on sale on ASOS I knew it would be great as nail art. The 3 bold colour combo is fab and the pattern isn't too difficult for me and my shaky hands.

I picked 3 Barry M nail paints; The Way You Make Me Teal & You Drive Me Navy from the Sunset Collection (review here), and Coconut from Barry M's Summer 2014 Gelly range (review here).

Barry M Coconut, The Way You Make Me Teal & You Drive Me Navy

Firstly I painted 2 coats of The Way You Make Me Teal on my ring finger and 2 coats of Coconut on the rest of my fingers.
I couldn't be bothered to wait until the polish was 'vinyl' dry, so I used the brush from The Way You Make Me Teal, turned it side ways and slid it across my first 2 nails.
I then dabbed some You Drive Me Navy onto an old gift card and used a striping brush to draw the line work onto all my nails (excuse the irregular lines .... we can all blame my thyroid).
Adding the dots onto the Coconut sections with a dotting tool (ball point pen if you don't have one) finished the design off.
I ended with a coat of Barry M Matte topcoat (because I don't do enough matte manis) and voila.

I love the dress and the nails but can imagine it would be a little to much to wear them both together. I think I might recreate this design in some other summer colours as I love it so much.

You can buy all the Barry M products listed in the post from BarryM.com (for international shipping), Superdrug or Boots from £2.99-£4.99 each.

What do you think? What 3 colours do you think would look the best in this design?

Have a lovely weekend.

P.S. I am away this weekend so there will be no more posts until Monday.

Models Own Festival Collection - Nail Polish Swatches and Review

Thursday, 23 April 2015

This year Models Own have been killing it on the nail front (but what's new) with the release of 30 new colours already and 5 more just around the corner! Check back next week to see what I'm talking about. Today I have the Festival Collection for you to drool over.

Models Own Festival Collection Nail Polishes

I get very excited when any brights/neons are released (I get excited when ANY polish is released really) from Models Own as they are always incredible quality. The new Festival collection is no exception, the 4 cremes and 1 glitter polishes make up what is a larger collection of products (see below) which are perfect for helping you stand out from the crowd at festivals.

If you're off to a festival and fancy making a statement beauty look, I suggest you pack some of these products in with your tent, after all who hasn't thought about dying their hair pink. I know I have many times but can't because I'm a boring adult and there's rules about that kind of thing when you're a teacher!

As much as I love the neon hair sprays and metallic face paints, I have no festivals planned in the near future, but I may buy these products for my niece and nephew (both under 10) and have a mini festival party in the garden come the summer holiday, followed by a water fight!

First up is Green Fields, a bold green grass creme. This is the second bright green released by Models Own this year and I am already becoming a firm fan of the shade. I used 2 coats of this polish and Hypergel topcoat for the swatch below.

Blue Skies is a bright cyan blue, ah how I love you! I used 2 coats again with Hypergel topcoat.

Purple Bandana is such a unique shade, it's what I'd call a bright pinky orchid (with me?). I used 2 coats and Hypergel topcoat for the swatch below.

Pink Wellies is a neon pink and it's perfect! I used 2 coats and Hypergel topcoat for the swatches below.

Colour Explosion is a mix of various sized, yellow, blue, peach and silver holo hexs glitters in a clear base. The glitters do need a little help onto the nail. I would suggest the sponging trick to really get a good coverage. I used 2 coats for the swatches below.

Overall I can not fault this collection, the formula is incredibly pigmented, smooth to apply and dries reasonably quickly (if using thin coats). The only improvement I can think of would be if Models Own used the flat brushes, like those seen in the Diamond Luxe collection.

Can I take a moment to express my love for the packaging ... it's perfect for summer and I honestly wish I could get a job at Models Own thinking up and creating new collections.

You can buy these products from Models Own Bottleshops, ModelsOwn.com and Superdrug.
