Models Own Holochrome Collection

Thursday, 29 December 2016

Christmas has officially been packed away in my house and I am loving the clean and decluttered look our flat seems to have taken on. I always get the decs down in time for New Years as I love starting January with a fresh mind and a clear home.

Back at the start of November I picked up 3 of the 5 Models Own Holochrome polishes. I swatched them there and then but decided to wait until the Thanksgiving sale to pick up the other 2 and post my review. However for some reason there was an issue with the delivery of my items and it took 3 weeks for my parcel to arrive (Models Own customer service were amazing, they just maybe need to change couriers).

My Christmas 2016

Monday, 26 December 2016

As I did with my Birthday back in July (see my post here), I wanted to write up a post on my Christmas time so that in years to come I can look back and read all about it. I apologise if this isn't interesting to you (however stick around as there will be plenty more exciting nail posts coming very soon) if it is, read on.

The Christmas Tag - Part 2

Sunday, 18 December 2016

So as it's a week to go until the big day, I thought I'd post the second installment of The Christmas Tag (well my version anyway). Please don't forget to check out the first post here, I talked about my favourite Christmas movies and where I'd like to spend my dream Christmas (hint it's Potter related).

Anyway today I have 10 more questions that are slightly more personal and probably a lot let interesting for you all (haha sorry, not sorry).

26 GNAI - Christmas Preparations

Thursday, 15 December 2016

Hello, I'm back today with another 26 Great Nail Art Ideas manicure (see my intro post to this challenge here). This time the prompt is 'Christmas Preparations' and the first thing that came to mind was a Christmas Tree mani, but I've already done that this year, so I decided to go with a more abstract tree decoration design.

The Christmas Tag - Part 1

Wednesday, 14 December 2016

So I read someones blog the other week (sorry I've forgotten) and their post featured 'The Christmas Tag'. As a major Christmas fanatic, I knew I needed to do my own version, especially as I have never done it before.

However after reading through the questions I realised I wanted to add, move and remove some. So this is my version, 20 festive questions which I am going to spread over 2 posts. I hope you enjoy ... ho ho ho!

Meebox November 2016 - All That Glitters

Tuesday, 13 December 2016

Another month and another late Meebox review. As anyone who gets a Meebox will know, they arrive toward the end of the month, which for me means it gets opened and then promptly forgotten. It's also been a bit of a difficult start to December for me. I won't go into details but I'm not very happy/well so my blog is taking a back seat while I sort myself out.

Anyway, onto more sparkly and nail related business. The 'All That Glitters' box was Meebox's November edition and the theme fit perfectly with the events of last month (fireworks, bonfire night, Christmas light switch ons and people decking their homes with tons of fairy lights). Yes I was very excited, especially after last months box (see my review of the Sugar Skulls box here), however my excitment didn't last long ...

Primark Gel Effect Grey & Annual Roundup

Monday, 12 December 2016

The other day while browsing Primark for some last minute Christmas bits (I managed to grab a snowman jumper, some festive PJ's and a HO HO HO headband) I saw that they had this grey Gel Effect polish for sale.

Back in the Summer I ignored this colour thinking it wasn't very pretty, but for months now I've been wishing I had picked it up. After all I'm a collector and Primark colours are a cheap but high quality polish that are great to use in nail art and as bases, and the thought of not having a complete Gel Effect collection made me feel a little uneasy.

Jessica Nails Phenom 'Precious Collection' Review

Sunday, 4 December 2016

PR Sample
Jessica Nails have released some stunning main line collections this year (Pop Couture, Polished In Pastels, Into The Wild) but I have yet to feature anything from their 'Phenom' range.

Phenom is Jessica Nails at home Gel manicure system, it promises up to 10 days of wear with a Gel like shine and with 45 colours to choose from, it's got something for everyone. Now I can't comment on the lasting power of this range, but the shine is extraordinary and the formula is a dream to work with.

Christmas Tree Nail Art

Friday, 2 December 2016

O Christmas Tree!
O Christmas Tree!
How Lovely Are Your Branches!

.. sing along with me for today I have a very festive post for you. Yesterday (the 1st of December) I donned a Christmas jumper, opened some onion rings (tradition) and put my tree up. It's only phase one of operation 'Deck The Halls' but it's the main phase and one I look forward to every year.
For the first few years of living with my boyfriend, we would go and choose a real tree. However one year we discovered that he suffers with 'Christmas Tree Syndrome' (*scroll to the bottom to know more) and so now we have an artificial one.

Monthly Favourites - November 2016

Thursday, 1 December 2016

So here we are, the end of November. I can't tell you how excited I am for December. If you haven't guessed, I'm crackers about Christmas. I feel like I have been waiting for December to roll around since the weather started turning cold back in September. However before I get carried away with whats to come, I need to reflect on November.

In terms of my blog it was a mixed bag. I ignored it the first half (busy work life and family commitments) and then the second half I powered up and got some posts out. I love blogging, I love reading blogs but sometimes my enthusiasm for it comes and goes. Oh well.

Nail Related Favourites

Favourite nail polish
Fine Flicker from Models Own Glitterball collection (reviewed here) and Icicle from Barry M's free gift with purchase set from Superdrug (reviewed here) are my favourites this month. Both are packed with holo glitters are both are beautiful. I know that as the festive season gets in full swing, I'll be wearing them both a huge amount.

Nail art I've created this month
Another busy month nail art wise and a total of 20 manis created. I really got into my stamping this month and took every opportunity to practice and play around with the plates and stampers that I have. I also ordered a few new ones (Christmas themed) so that come December I'm ready to roll out the festive manis. Again I took part in the #clairestelle8nov challenge but I also participated in the #pcanovember16 challenge over on IG (read my overview post here). There we're a few extra mani's too.

#clairestelle8nov - my faves are the mermaid and geometric designs.

#pcanovember16 - my overall fave is the flowers.

Other nail art I've created in November - my fave is the fireworks night and candy cane nails.

Swatches I've done this month
I have to admit, that November was a little lacking in swatches. However I actually have a ton of swatch pictures lined up and ready to go next month, I just never got around to editing the posts. I'm also waiting on a couple of polishes to be delivered to finish up collections I've partly swatched, so again, once they arrive I'll be able to finish the posts and get them out there.

Favourite blog post I've published this month
My favourite post has to be the Candy Cane Nail Art post I published on the 26th November. Thanks to my new stamping ability, I've managed to create the kind of candy cane nails I've been dreaming about for years.

Favourite blog posts from other bloggers
Polished Polyglot - Tartan Pattern Nail Design [26 GNAI]
Do you ever see a nail a design and wish that it could instantly appear on your nails? Well this happened when Natalia posted her incredibly beautiful Tartan nails for the 26 GNAI challenge. Wow. I have now ordered some new stamping plates in the hope that I can create a similar look, I'm in love with tartan and need it on my nails.

Red Heads Paint It Better - Autumnal Gradient
Laura-Louise is such a talented blogger and her nail art is always gorgeous. On the 17th of November she posted a gorgeous gradient using Barry M's Molten Metal range and it immediately went on my 'to try' list. It's beautiful and would be gorgeous worn alone or as the base for some sparkly Christmas nail art.

Any new nail brands I've discovered this month
A whopping 3 new nail brands this month. Two came from my MeeBox subsciption (review here). One I'll be purchasing from again, and another I wont. 'Ard As Nails 'Taking A Dip' was such a lovely polish and I will def look to purchase from them again. Miami Deco 'Miley What's Good' was nice enough, but due to the size, packaging and obscene price, I'll never be buying from the company.

I also worked with CICI&SISI (a nail stamping brand - review here and here) and I have to say, acrylic plates are my dream. I find them so much easier to work with than the traditional metal ones, that I am already counting down the days until I place an order for some new ones.

Any new nail care items I've discovered this month
No, I've been using my favourites and although my Nail Care Routine post is a little out dated (it's on my update list), I still use most of the products mentioned there.

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Favourite moment in November
At the beginning of November my sister came to visit for the weekend and we spent so many happy hours walking around shops, touring all the supermarkets, popping in and out of B&M, Toys R Us and The Range. We grabbed lots of Christmas presents, had fun catching up and discussing 'sister' things and generally having a fab time. The memories of that weekend still fill my heart with happiness and I just wish we could do it more often.

Christmas Haul - from a solo Primark visit after my sister left.

Another notable moment was a family dinner I had with my mum, her husband, my other sister and my Aunt and Uncle. I rarely get together with them and so when I do it's really lovely. My mum filled my car with Christmas presents, we swapped advent calendars and discussed Christmas plans. It was such a lovely was to spend a cold and wet Saturday afternoon.

Favourite food
I've been enjoying hot food. Hot oats for breakfast, hot soup for lunch and hot casseroles and roasts for dinner. I've even had a crazy amount of hot chocolate and so far from the shops, my fave is the Mint one from Costa.

Favourite song
Christmas songs - all of them. I have a playlist on my spotify with 85 different Christmas songs on and it's been on repeat most of the second half of November. I have no shame about this and I can't wait to continue playing it throughout December.

As for non-Christmas songs, it has to be 'Winter Prayer' by Iron & Wine. This song is beautiful and although it's a little sombre, I love listening to it.

Favourite book
I've started re-reading 'The All Souls' Trilogy by Deborah Harkness so my favourite book is 'A Discovery of Witches'. This is such an amazingly written series and I can not thank my mum enough for introducing it to me a couple of winters ago, you can see how well loved my copy is. If you love fiction, specifically fiction involving supernaturals, you should give this a go, it's excellent.

Favourite movie
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Wow I thought this movie was excellent, I loved the characters, the plot and the insight into a different part of the Wizarding world. I can not wait for what's next to come and I hope that as the movies play out, we'll get closer to the Harry Potter timeline.
On a side note, I've often wondered why JK hasn't written a series of books on a young Dumbledore. His time at Hogwarts and then after sound incredible (from what you garner through the HP books) and I for one would love to know more.

Favourite TV show
I have been loving that Planet Earth is back, wow this series is immense, The opening show featured baby marine iguanas and racer snakes - that was something to see. Big Bang Theory is back and so far I have been loving Sheldon and Amy living together and I can't wait until Bernadette has her baby.
Finally I have started watching Gilmore Girls again on Netflix. I enjoy this show, however I can not have it on if I am trying to focus on anything. There is so much talking! However as a show to watch while I'm blogging or chilling, it's perfect and I am enjoying re-watching it. It's been years and years since I originally saw it and then once I'm done, I'll watch the new shows.

So there we have it. I feel like November was a month full of highs and lows and although I don't share my lows, they happen and it's been a struggle at times. However I am too excited for what's to come in December to wallow. As I'm finishing off this post, I'm surrounded by the glow of fairy lights from my tree, I've got a fresh cuppa in my Snowman mug and I have the taste of Lindt chocolate in my mouth from my advent calendar. I feel 'cosy'. December will def bring tons of festive nail art, lots of review posts and no doubt, lots of non-nail related Christmas posts.

Who's excited with me?

Please let me know some of your November faves in the comments. Do we have any the same?

Thanks as always for reading, I really appreciate it.

Pancreatic Cancer Awareness - Nail Art Challenge Roundup

Tuesday, 29 November 2016

This month I have taken part in the #pcanovember16 nail art challenge over on Instagram, organised by Debbie (@ladyandthe_stamp) and Jayne (@starryeyed83). Pancreatic Cancer is something with has tragically touched both their lives and when they announced that they would be running this challenge, I immediately wanted to take part.

IZ Movember Nail Art Stickers

Sunday, 27 November 2016

PR Sample
As November draws to a close, it dawned on me that I have yet to create any 'Movember' nail art. In fact when I think about it, I don't think a mustache has ever graced my nails. I tried to freehand some mustaches, but they turned out awful, like truly terrible.

Thankfully a gorgeous package landed on my doorstep on Thursday and it luckily contained some adorable mustache nail art stickers from IZ Beauty, I considered myself saved.

Candy Cane Nail Art

Saturday, 26 November 2016

With December fast approaching I have been starting to prepare for Christmas by buying lots of yummy treats for the 'Christmas Cupboard' (this year it's an old chest of drawers in our spare room). I have picked up Roses, Heroes, Quality Street, and loads of mint chocolate as it's my fave (After Eights, Thornton's Mint Selection, Matchmakers etc) but there is one thing noticeably absent from my minty hoard, Ghiradelli's Peppermint Bark.

As I haven't been to America this year, I haven't managed to grab any and as I'm not a millionaire, I am not prepared to spend the small fortune it costs to get it shipped here.

Barry M - Free Gift Limited Edition Nail Paints from Superdrug

Friday, 25 November 2016

Ho Ho Ho - no you're not going crazy, I really have written a second post today, I did allude to the fact there may be another post today in my first blog post and here it is. In fact I feel a little like Santa (hence the Ho Ho Ho) in that I'm giving you such a treat of a post here, well at least I think so.

The other day my sister messaged me and asked if I'd seen the new Barry M's in Superdrug, a sentence that usually gets my heart racing, however I was convinced she was mistaken. After all I had attended the Barry M AW16 press event and thought I knew about all the new releases. So after a bit of questioning, which was difficult because as she's not a major nail polish obsessive like me, she took no photos, didn't know the names of the shades or what colour they were. All she could tell me was there was 2 and one was sparkly - great, consider the case closed (*insert sarcastic rolling eye emoji).

26 GNAI - Winter Warmth

Happy Black Friday, have you had a successful shopping day? I only grabbed a few Christmas presents but the most exciting thing that happened today was bagging myself a free Daisy Dixon watch in their Black Friday giveaway (my sister also got one which was amazing), anyone else get one? Actually that was a lie, there's another more exciting thing that happened, but for that you need to check back later, possibly tomorrow, dependening on when I get my swatches done.

Today I have another of the 26 Great Nail Art Ideas manis and for a change it's actually being posted on the correct day.

Nails Inc AW16 - Nails Inc Gel Effect: All Fired Up Collection

Thursday, 24 November 2016

PR Sample
Back in 2014 Nails Inc brought you the first nail polish range packed with Kale. Then earlier this year coconut oil was added for extra moisture. Now there's a new superfood for your tips: charcoal.

But why charcoal I hear you ask? After all it's not really a superfood and like you I'm sat here wondering how some dusty black lump of carbon is suppose to help my nails. However charcoal is a powerful detoxing ingredient and it's been introduced to these polishes to help protect our nails against environmental toxins and pollutants, by combating free radicals.

CICI&SISI Christmas Party 03 Plate Review

Tuesday, 22 November 2016

PR Sample
Put your fave Christmas playlist on, grab a glass of mulled wine and snuggle up in your cheesiest of Christmas jumpers because things are getting festive tonight!

I was recently contacted by CICI&SISI and asked if I fancied reviewing some of their plates and of course my answer was a very enthusiastic YES. Now if you've followed me for a while, you know that stamping is a recent string to my nail art bow, so I'm happy to have any opportunity to try out new plates and practice my very shaky technique.

Models Own Glitterball Collection

Monday, 21 November 2016

PR Sample
Another Monday and another week closer to Christmas (internal cartwheels). I am also only 10 sleeps away from putting my tree up and with the onset of December I am beginning to feel that my nails need to get a little more festive too.

Queue Models Own and their new Glitterball collection. Now unless you've been absent from social media for the past week, you'll know that last Tuesday Models Own announced (very surprisingly) that they were sneaking another new nail polish collection out. I was very excited by this news and even more excited when they turned up on my doorstep later that week.

26 GNAI - Blue & Silver

Thursday, 17 November 2016

So this post is super over due (like many these days), however I wanted to catch up on it so here I go.
I decided to join in with Crumpet's Nail Tarts 26 Great Nail Art Ideas, firstly as I love being directed with nail art. Although I like to think of myself as a creative, artsy type, I actually really struggle to come up with random themes (these challenges therefore help focus me) and secondly, I have been feeling like I need to inject some more nail art onto my blog.

I actually started this challenge back at the end of October when I posted my Halloween In The Wrong Colours mani. Today I have the first prompt, Blue and Silver (which should have been posted back on the 14th October), oops.

MeeBox October 2016 - Sugar Skulls

Wednesday, 16 November 2016

Hello all, today I have a review of MeeBox's October box. I'm not sure why it's taken me this long to post my review, after all this box came out a LONG long time ago.

This is the first time in a while that I personally handed money over for a MeeBox and with that in mind I had much higher expectations. I have been loving MeeBox this year but have to say that this box didn't tickle my fancy like the others have. I just 'liked' everything and that's a very dangerous thing. However I am fully aware that this is my personal opinion, there's nothing wrong with the products, they just didn't excite me like some others have.

Monthly Favourites - October 2016

Tuesday, 1 November 2016

Whaaaatttt???!!! How on earth is it November already? How on earth am I sat here writing up my October favourites? This month (like all the other's I've written favourites post for - July / August / September) has gone super quick. However I'm so excited that next month is Christmas, super squee.

Nail Related Favourites

Favourite nail polish
This month it's another double winner as I really couldn't decide between 'Let Your Hair Down' from Leighton Denny's Roaring 20's Collection and Primark's AW16 Gel Effect in 'Feisty'.

Both these polishes are stunning and are individually very unique to my collection. I'm very much in love and have been wearing these to death the last month.

Nail art I've created this month
So this month I took part in #clairestelle8halloween challenge on IG and made myself do lots of independent nail art. I actually went into double digits and completed a grand total of 19 different nail designs (I've only got 17 designs to show you because the other 2 from my MeeBox Pumpkin Spice nail art post, were posed rather oddly and didn't look right, OCD formatting at it's best).

#clairestelle8halloween nail art - my faves are the pumpkins and the bats.

Here's my last mani's GiTD reveal, it's not a great quality image as my camera on my phone freaks out in low light, however you can still see it and that's good enough for me.

Other nail art I've completed in October - my faves are the stamp decal ghosts and pumpkins!

Swatches I've done this month
Like with my nail art, I totally upped my swatching game (yes I just sly smiled at myself, after last month (see September faves) I'm feeling rather proud). In the collage below I have only put those swatches which I've either blogged about or shown on my IG account. Behind the scenes I have around 12 other swatches ready to go, so keep an eye out next month (actually this month) for them.

Yes I know I've not done as many as I thought (see my Autumnal Nail Mail & Haul post), however those I've missed are coming up in November.

Favourite blog post I've published
So this month I manged to post every other day, something that hasn't happened in a very long time here on The Polish List. As a result I have far too many to pick between and consequently I've been changing my mind a lot. However I think it has to be the review of Barry M's AW16 Coconut Infusion Collection.

The reason I picked this is because I had so much fun styling the photos with the coconut and autumnal leaves, that and the fact the colours were incredible.

Favourite blog posts from other bloggers

A Nail Polish Addiction - TAG / Breast Cancer Awareness
This was such a lovely post and I especially enjoyed the fact it was chock a block full of pink polish. Hayley did a great job at narrowing down her pinks and I also saw a couple I need to pick up. I joined in with this TAG and you can view my top 10 pink polishes for Breast Cancer awareness here.

Coewless Nail Polish Blog - NOTD Coraline
Eva is a magician when it comes to nail art and these Coraline nails are stunning. She did an incredible job with all the characters, but my favourite has to be Other Wybie, his button eyes are perfect.

Any new nail brands I've discovered
Thanks to MeeBox's Pumpkin Spice box, I managed to try both C&E Clementine and Nude No1 by Lauren B Lacquer and later in the month I was sent some Annika nail colours to try from The Edge Nails.

Any new nail care products I've discovered
I've been wracking my brains for this one and don't think I have.

I can't let this month pass without mentioning a couple of things. Firstly a certain #worldpastaday manicure I created. I have never had a manicure create a stir quite like these did on IG, and although not everyone understood or 'got' why I stuck bits of spaghetti to my nails (why read captions hey!), it was fun to see the response all the same.

2.5k new followers gained

What I find even more funny is I very nearly didn't post these nails and when I did I thought I'd get a few 'pity' likes from my current followers :)

Secondly this is the month I finally put in some serious hours and started stamping - yay. Can you believe it's taken me this many years? Well I'm finally on my way to being a nail stamper and with a little more practice I know I'll get a few issues straightened out.

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Favourite moment in October
In October I had a whole week off and enjoyed every moment. I decorated the house for halloween which was lovely, however there was one lovely day where I woke up early and took myself off to IKEA to grab a 4th Helmer. I also met up with my family for lunch and finished the day off with a long luxiourious bath. It's these kind of days that I love and I can still remember how cosy and warm the whole day made me feel.

Favourite food
I wait for October to roll around every year because Kipling release their Fiendish Fancies and I totally love them. Over the month I picked up 5 boxes (I have 3 left to get me through November/December) because when these delicious orange cakes are gone, it's another year until I can have them again!

I also made some chocolate crispy cakes this month (how amazing are these things!). I hadn't made these in years and I'm not sure why, they took minutes and tasted amazing.

Favourite song
Freedom by Beyonce has been my go to tune this month, it's so motivating. I blast this as I drive to work, while I shower, as I clean the house, in fact at any time I need to boost my energy levels. Beyonce - you are amazing!

Favourite book
I have been loving Meik Wiking's 'The Little Book of HYGGE - The Danish Way To Live Well'. What's really interesting from reading this, is that I'm a total hygge nerd and never realised it. It's the perfect book to pick up and while reading through the sections I've been examining what really makes me happy, it's been an education.

Favourite movie
As it's been the month of Halloween this goes out to all my spooky faves - 'A Nightmare Before Christmas' 'Hocus Pocus' 'The Witches' and 'Coraline'. Spot the Fiendish Fanices! :)

Favourite TV show
Victoria (now finished) and Poldark. Yes I know it's another double winner but as both of these shows have been getting me through that dreaded Sunday night downer for the last 7/8 weeks I had to mention them. I love a good period drama and am looking forward to 'The Crown' starting on Netflix in a couple of days (fingers crossed it's good),

So there we are, I love rounding up my month and reflecting on all my favourite things. Please let me know your favourites from October, especially if they're the same as mine. I am so excited we're now in November, I've had the Home Alone soundtrack on while typing this and have picked up lots of fun Christmas bits in B&M & Sainsbury's this morning (including a Christmas countdown elf - it's 52 days if you're interested).

Barry M AW16 Coconut Infusion Nail Paint Collection

Sunday, 30 October 2016

PR Sample
Happy Sunday, I hope you have lots of lovely things planned for today. I finally managed to find some time yesterday to get some serious swatching done, so today I have the gorgeous AW Coconut Infusion drop to show you. Barry M released these back at the end of September along with their Christmas Limited Editions, Gelly and new Wet Set Topcoat.

26 GNAI - Halloween In The Wrong Colours

Friday, 28 October 2016

So I've decided to join in the 26 Great Nail Art Idea challenge, created by Crumpet's Nail Tarts. On my blog I am going to go back in time to the 14th and post my first manicure sometime in the near future - does that even make sense? Anyway today I bring you Halloween In The Wrong Colours.

Having already done a fair few manicures, in a wide range of colours, deciding which palette to use was a little difficult. However I decided on neon and am so glad I did.

Ghost Water Decal Nail Art

Wednesday, 26 October 2016

Happy hump day. Hope you're all having a lovely week, I've been enjoying my time off but so far have spent more time deep cleaning my house than I have on nails. It's definitely time to fix that.

Last week after a very frustrating stamping session (I'm slowly getting there) I decided to order some water decals and I am so glad I did, it's revolutionised my take on nail art!

Tag - Breast Cancer Awareness - Favourite Pinks

Monday, 24 October 2016

The other day I was catching up on reading some blog posts and I came across Hayley's of A Nail Polish Addiction post called TAG: Breast Cancer Awareness and knew I needed to do my own version of this tag.

What with the recent Stand Up To Cancer event (see my post here) and October traditionally being Breast Cancer Awareness, it seemed like the perfect time to dust off some pink polishes and give you a run down of my top 10 fave pinks.

Stand Up To Cancer Nail Art

Friday, 21 October 2016

Happy Friday and a big yay to having a week off. I am so excited to have the following 9 days off work and I can't wait to get back on top of my swatch pile. I'm even off to IKEA tomorrow to grab a fourth helmer as I've bottles of polish spilling over everywhere. Yes, the time to get re-organised and plan is at hand and I am so pleased.

Today I have some nail art that I created for the Stand Up To Cancer event today.
