Candy Coat - A Monthly Gel Subscription Box

Saturday, 27 February 2016

So it's been a week since I've blogged but what a post I've got for you today. We all know that subscription boxes are having their day, you've got beauty boxes, nail polish boxes, boxes for that time of the month, boxes for chocolate lovers, food boxes and even boxes for our pets.

If you're looking for a nail polish box, there are plenty to choose from, but if you're after a gel polish box, the choice falls away to zero. That was until now and luckily the quirky and bold brand Candy Coat has you covered.

Top 5 Nail Polish Collections I Wish I Owned

Friday, 19 February 2016

How is it Friday again already? I don't know where my half term has gone and to be honest I am a little bit sad that it's nearly over, despite the fact that I have had a great week.

For today's post I have a wish list of the top 5 nail polish collections that I am currently lusting after.

OPI New Orleans Collection - how stunning are these colours?!

OPI Hello Kitty Collection - its not only cute, it's also incredibly pretty!

OPI Colour Paints Collection - I have wanted these since the day I saw the press release last year. I need them in my life!

China Glaze House Of Color Collection - this collection contains some amazing colours, that peach and taupe are beautiful!

Orly Melrose Collection - who doesn't love mint and berry tones, I love the different finishes that these shades have.

There we have it, the top 5 nail polish collections I wish I owned.

What do you think about these colours? What collections are on your wish list?

Models Own Colour Chrome Autumn/Winter 2015

Thursday, 18 February 2016

Back at the end of January Models Own had a 50% off sale (heavenly) and I decided to whip up a wish list to help narrow down what to buy. It took me a little while to make a note of all the colours I didn't have (that I absolutely, couldn't live without) and in the end I had a mammoth 43 to choose from. As you can imagine I was very tempted to buy the lot, however even at half price that would have cost a small fortune.

In the end I purchased 20 beautiful colours and amongst them was the Autumn/Winter 2015 colour chromes. I loved the original 10 colours they released (post here) so knew I would love these too.

Models Own Autumn/Winter 2015 Colour Chromes

Before I show you swatches of these colours I must mention that they are a nightmare if you have nothing short of silky smooth nails. They show every lump, bump and niggle on your nail surface which can ruin the finish. I generally don't use a basecoat with these but I did give my nail surface a very light buff and a good oiling the morning before I did these swatches.

Chrome Grey is a dark gun metal grey. It applies like a dream and needed only 2 coats.

Chrome Red is a deep raspberry red with a slight silver shimmer to it. I needed 2 coats for this swatch.

Chrome Copper is slightly different to the others in that the formula appeared very runny and less chrome like (at least to me anyway). I needed only 2 coats.

Chrome Turquoise is very badly named, this is a gorgeous colour but not turquoise at all. It is however so pretty and brighter than Chrome Blue. I needed 2 coats.

Lastly we have Chrome Pearl, this colour is nothing like the bottle would have you believe. When I saw the bottle I was expecting something amazing, however it hasn't got any pink/purple tones in it at all and appears to be a lighter almost bleached version of Chrome Silver. It is a lovely colour but the bottle is so misleading that I can't help but be a little disappointed. I needed 3 coats of this.

So there we are. I think out of these new additions Chrome Red and Grey are my faves.

I couldn't let this opportunity pass without creating a collage showing all 15 colours together. For previous colour names see my original Colour Chrome post.

You can buy Models Own from their bottleshops, on their website or in Superdrug stores priced at £4.99 each.

Barry M Spring Floral Nail Art

Monday, 15 February 2016

Happy Monday and Hello sunshine! It was so lovely waking up and seeing it get brighter and brighter, it makes such a difference to my mood.

With the crisp fresh air and blue sky in mind, I was inspired to do some pastel floral nails and I knew that Barry M's Cotton (review here) would make the perfect base paired with Pinking Out Loud (review here) as the accent colour.

As an after thought I added the pearls and topped with Barry M's Matte topcoat. I love the finished look, it's a lot softer and more feminine than I planned but I think it works.

What do you think? Have you been wearing spring florals on your nails yet?

HJ Manicure - Valentines Negative Space Nail Art

Sunday, 14 February 2016

Happy Valentines Day all, hope you're enjoying this sunny Sunday.

For today's post I thought I would do a final Valentines nail art design based off my nail art wheel (post here) but instead of the sheer base I would use some of my gorgeous HJ Manicure colours.

HJ Manicure Valentines Nail Design

I used Strawberry Daiquiri (a gorgeous 1 coater red), Candy Pink (2 coats of my fave shade), Pink Champagne (2 coats with a gorgeous shimmer) and Pink Bikini (2 coats).

HJ Manicure Nail Polishes in Strawberry Daiquiri, Candy Pink, Pink Champagne and Pink Bikini

To create the negative space heart I used cotton buds and polish remover and finally I placed some loose glitter sequins to spell out the letters.

OPI Heart Themed Valentines Nail Art

Saturday, 13 February 2016

Happy Saturday, how's your weekend going? As it's half term and I am currently nephew sitting, I will most probably have spent my day watching Disney movies, eating pick n' mix and colouring in dinosaurs (yes it will have been amazing).

Valentines Day is now only a few hours away so I thought I'd create another lovey-dovey nail art look for todays blog post.

OPI Valentines Nail Art

OPI Valentines Nail Art

Like yesterdays (post here), this design is based loosely off the Valentines Nail Art Wheel I created (post here). However, I found that when I was actually painting, each nails design seemed to change ever so slightly and in the end I just went with it. Even though I'm not that thrilled with the way my little finger's design came out, I love the rest so much it kind of makes up for it.

Colours I used; OPI Suzi's Hungary Again, OPI Magazine Cover Mouse, OPI My Boyfriend Scales Walls and topped it all off with a coat of OPI's Matte Top Coat.

What do you think of this look? Do you have a favourite nail design?

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend.

Models Own Mix and Match Valentines Nail Art

Friday, 12 February 2016

Happy Friday and welcome to the weekend. Friday nights are my favourite night of the week and for me they usually entail a glass of wine, a bath and a ridiculously early night.

For todays post I have a mix and match valentines nail art look created using designs from the nail art wheel I blogged about yesterday (post here). I picked my 4 favourite patterns and changed the colour scheme of my index finger design to match.

Valentines 2016 - Nail Art Wheel

Thursday, 11 February 2016

With Valentines fast approaching, some of us will be getting ready to celebrate the day of love. To be honest I don't tend to do much more than swap a card with my other half, but it's nice to have an excuse to paint hearts on my nails.

This year I thought I would create a nail art wheel of some of my favourite valentines designs, I have to state that some of these have been doing the rounds for a few years and are not my originals.

Valentines Nail Art Wheel Created Using Models Own Nail Polishes

I used all Models Own polishes to create this nail art wheel and 1 red sheer tint I made myself (post here). I love the range of reds and pinks that Models Own have and I wanted an excuse to use some of the more neglected colours from my collection (see below for details).

Models Own Nail Polishes

From Top L-R; Princess Pink, Heart Red, Sterling Silver, Black Magic.
From Bottom L-R; Watermelon, Sundress, White Light.

You can buy all these gorgeous polishes and more on the Models Own website for £4.99 each.

I'm not sure how many valentines nail art looks I'll get to create this year but I will be using some of these patterns as inspiration.

What's your favourite valentines design?

Barry M Comparison - New Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paints

Wednesday, 10 February 2016

Happy Wednesday all. Today I thought I'd do a comparison post of Barry M's new Sunset collection (post here) vs older colours from their complete nail paint line.

Barry M New Spring 2016 Sunset Daylight Curing Comparison

Empire State of Mint was a colour a few people thought would be similar to Greenberry from the Gelly range, however as you can see below, it's a tad lighter. I also added in Mint Green and Road Rage as these were colours that looked a bit like Empire State of Mint in the bottle, but not so much on the nail.

Barry M Empire State of Mint Comparison

Bug A Blue only looked similar to Blueberry Ice Cream in the bottle, all other blues were slightly green or purple toned when compared. However on the nail you can see that they are so close that they could be dupes. I actually had a hard time remembering which was which when editing the pictures.

Barry M Bug A Blue Comparison

Pinking Out Loud was compared to Bright Pink and Dragon Fruit as these were the only pinks that looked close enough to warrant comparing. On the nail you can see that Bright Pink is much darker whereas Dragon Fruit is closer, it just has the silvery shimmer irl that's hard to pick up on my phone.

Barry M Pinking Out Loud Comparison

Finally, All The Things She Red was more difficult to compare as there are a lot of previous reds to choose from. I actually had to narrow it down a lot and focused on Coral and Satsuma as they looked the most similar in the bottle. On the nail you can see that Coral doesn't have the depth of colour or that true orange tinge that the other two have. However it's a very close call between All The Things She Red and Satsuma.

Barry M All The Things She Red Comparison

There we are, I love comparing older colours to the new. Although 2 of the new Sunset are similar to previous colours, remember that the Daylight Curing range provides a longer lasting finish.

You can find all of the colours mentioned in Superdrug, Boots or from the Barry M website ranging in price from £2.99-£4.99.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine - Spring 2016 Edition

Monday, 8 February 2016

PR Sample

Barry M's Gelly Hi Shine range has to be without a doubt, their bestselling nail paint line. It was launched back in August of 2012, and has expanded year on year (from the original 9). At the end of 2015, it boosted 42 different shades as well as 2 limited edition glitter colours.

I am so surprised when they release new shades of Gellys, not because it's a collection that needs to go the way of the Sequins (the only blimp in Barry M's amazing nail paint history) but because it's so huge. However season upon season they manage to find shades I never knew could exist but find I can't live without once I know of them.

The Spring 2016 colours are no exception and I have these to show you today.

Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Spring 2016 Nail Paints; Pink Lemonade, Butterscotch Sundae, Cream Soda & Acai Smoothie

Pink Lemonade is a gorgeous soft rose blush. I used 2 coats and a coat of Plumpy.

Butterscotch Sundae is creamy oatmeal colour. Again I needed only 2 smooth coats and a coat of Plumpy for the swatches below.

Cream Soda is a green tinted ivory. I used 2 coats, plus 1 of Plumpy for the swatches below.

Finally Acai Smoothie is a taffy/berry coloured purple with a very strong pink tinge. I used 2 coats and finished off with 1 coat of Plumpy for the pictures.

These are the softest of the spring releases from Barry M (Sunset colours here & Speedy colours here) and are so beautiful. I can see them becoming firm favourites for everyone all throughout the year.

You can buy these now in Boots and from the 10th February in Superdrug for £3.99 each.
You can also buy the Plumpy topcoat for £2.99 in Superdrug, Boots and on the Barry M website.
