Barry M Sunset Daylight Curing - Spring 2016 Edition

PR Sample

Happy Saturday everyone. It's been a week since I went to London for the Barry M Spring 2016 Launch Party (post here) and I can't wait any longer to try out the new nail colours, despite my nubbie nails.

I thought I'd post swatches of the new Sunset colours first as the internet is littered with amazing pictures of the Speedys and Gellys (I will swatch these over the next few days so please check back).

Barry M Spring 2016 Sunset Daylight Curing Nail Paints; Empire State of Mint, Bug A Blue, Pinking Out Loud & All The Things She Read

First off I was surprised by these colours as they're very bold for a spring launch, although they looked a little out of place amongst the pale pastels that featured heavily in the rest of the nail paint line up from Barry M, I must declare myself in love. Many a 'bright' colour fan will be thanking Barry M for releasing these, they're the perfect antidote to all this miserable British weather and a great alternative to the muted pastels that seem so abundant at this time of year.

If you're not too sure what the Sunset Daylight Curing range is about, I suggest you read my first post on this collection, here, to get up to speed.

First up is Empire State Of Mint. This bold mint green has an incredibly pigmented formula and is perfect in 3 thin coats (as I have larger nails I like to add a 3rd to smooth out any bold patches so most people could get away with only 2). As per the idea of this collection, I also added a coat of the Sunset Daylight Curing topcoat to finish.

Bug A Blue is a lovely sky blue and the formula is just like Empire State of Mint. I used 3 thin coats plus a coat of the Sunset topcoat to finish.

Pinking Out Loud is a bright Barbie pink. Again 3 thin coats and 1 of the topcoat were used for the picture below.

For this last colour you're going to need sunglasses, it's bright in the bottle but even brighter on the nail and it did all kinds of terrible things to my camera (so I apologise for my snow white skin and the darker background). However it can be forgiven as it's beau-ti-ful!

All The Things She Red is a super bright red (boarding on neon) with an orange undertone. It could be perfect in 1 coat if you have dainty nails and can apply like an expert, however I used 2 thin coats and a coat of the topcoat to finish. This has by far the best formula and is amazing to work with, because you need less coats than the others it's also the perfect option for a last minute mani.

Overall these newer Sunset nail paints are fab and a much needed pop of colour. My favourites are Bug A Blue and All The Things She Red.

You can find them in Superdrug from the 10th February or in Boots from the 17th priced at £4.99 each.

  1. Gorgeous colours! I personally won't be buying them simply as I have similar colours already plus I get too bored with the same colour/art for a while (when I tried out the Sunset collection I got a good 8 days wear out of it, fantastic value but halfway through the test I just wanted to take it off and change colours!). I 'm glad they've brought out some brighter ones though as I thought the original line up was a little lacking. Would be nice to see them as a full range alongside the Gellys/Mattes/Speedy Drys

Just in case anyone is interested, my review of the original release is here: http://polishedpevil.com/2015/04/08/barry-m-sunset-daylight-curing-polish/

  2. I know what you mean, if they weren't Barry M I'm not sure I'd be so keen. The releases from the Speedy / Gelly collection are far more original.
I'm working on swatching my way through all the Gellys & love your idea of seeing all the colours together. I'll have to get my collage skills out.

What are you fave current Spring polishes? x
