PR SampleThere's nothing more exciting than nail mail (if you're a crazed nail lover like myself), and last week when I came home to a box full of polish from Collection, I was in heaven. It felt like only a short while ago I received a similarly massive package of Collection's 7 Day Wear Collection, but checking back on my blog it was apparently over a year ago (say what??). This new package was full of their new 2 Step Solar Shine Gel polish and I have lots of glossy pictures and a review of it today for you.
This is Collection's foray into the world of DIY salon quality 'gel' nails. These polishes are specially formulated to provide intense colour and a high gloss finish by combining 1 of the new 9 on-trend colours with their specially formulated topcoat.
The press release says that you should first apply their 2in1 basecoat (love this basecoat), then use 2 coats of the colour of your choice and finish with a coat of the Solar Shine topcoat. So that's what I did.
Before I get into the swatches, I want to talk about the formula and application of these polishes. The formula is super rich, smooth and highly pigmented. Full coverage was achieved with 2 coats max for all colors and thanks to the wide brush, application was a dream. The topcoat was silky and provided the perfect glossy finish. All photos below show 2 coats of colour and 1 of the topcoat.
Oyster Pearl is a lilac tinged pale neutral grey creme (phew, I had trouble summarising this colour). It's beautiful and classic, very unique and I've no doubt it will be a big hit.
Just Beachy is a pinky toned peachy coral creme. This is a typical summer shade and I'm already wearing it on my toe nails, it's gorgeous.
Caribbean Crush is a bold cherry red creme, the formula of this is amazing and I very nearly didn't need the second coat.
Sunset Pink is a fuchsia pink creme with blue undertones. You know I love me some pink and this shade is stunning.
Sultry Sorrento is a raspberry wine creme. Although I don't tend to wear these shades often, this is lovely, just make sure you apply it perfectly as it has the tendency to bleed during clean up and no one wants stained cuticles.
Mauve Haze is a mauve creme (surprise) with a strong purple tinge. It was a pain to photograph properly as my camera kept picking up on the purple too much. In fact I spent around an hour alone just trying to get the colour of this matched properly, I took so many pictures in so many different lights and I'm still not happy with this.
Dreamy Days is a purpley-eggplanty-mauve creme (another one I am struggling to describe) but it's gorgeous.
Biarritz Blitz is a gothic plum shade. This vampy shade has more of a crelly formula so the first coat applies slightly sheer, streaky and bright, it's only on the second coat that it builds to this smooth, deep purple colour.
Jungle Fever is an incredibly bright lime/grass green. I was struck at how out of place this colour looked in the lineup. However I love it, it's very refreshing compared to the more traditional colours in this collection.
There we have it, the whole collection is beautiful and I can not tell you how brilliant the formula is on these polishes, it actually reminds me of some very high end polish (OPI/Jessica). The colour range is classic with a dash of daring and I know that they'll be something to suit everyone. The only aspect of this range I can not tell you about is it's wear time (life of a nail blogger hey!).
You can buy Collection's 2 Step Solar Shine Gel polishes from Superdrug and Boots stores nationwide for £3.99 each, don't forget to grab the topcoat while you're at it.
