Monthly Favourites - July 2016

Sunday, 31 July 2016

Can someone tell me how it became the end of July already? This month has flown by and not in a good way. Although at least it means we're another month closer to Christmas (obsessed and proud).

I've been thinking for a while about some new regular content for my blog, and I thought a monthly faves post may be a really nice way to summarise my month and act almost like a 'memory box' that I'll enjoy looking back on in years to come.

Primark P.S Beauty New Summer Nail Polishes - Review & Swatches

Friday, 29 July 2016

Happy Friday and yay for the weekend, how has your week been? I found myself unable to sleep last night and rather than toss and turn for hours, I decided to get up and get some swatching done. My to swatch pile is actually rather large at the minute but I've had these Primark colours knocking around for weeks now so I thought I'd start there.

Every time I pop into Primark I visit the beauty counter and grab some of their products to try. The P.S range is so affordable and you can actually find some amazing gems.

Models Own Soft Pop Collection

Wednesday, 27 July 2016

Happy Wednesday everyone, Today I have the long awaited Soft Pop collection from Models Own. I received this collection from my boyfriend for my birthday (see my 2016 birthday blog post here) and I have been so excited to try them out.

Models Own launched this collection to coincide with their new beauty range back in May. As soon as I saw them I knew I needed them, I have a weakness for Models Own and these pastel neon polishes are stunning.

ASDA George Gellies Polishes

Saturday, 23 July 2016

Ok so I may have said that my next post was going to be the Models Own Soft Pops, but I forgot all about this one (forgive me).

A few weeks ago while shopping in ASDA I decided to have a browse at their cosmetics stand and these 'Gellies' polishes caught my eye.

You may remember around about 2 years ago I reviewed ASDA's fruit crush textured polishes and since then I have a peek every now and then to see if there's anything fun. Well I can tell you that my heart did a little leap when it saw these (any polish lover will know that feeling) because

My Birthday 2016

Wednesday, 20 July 2016

So last week I posted my 2016 Birthday Wishlist, a post that I know was more for me than anyone else. For a long while now I've been wanting to turn this blog into something more than a place for swatches and nail reviews, I have some amazing ideas for upcoming nail themed posts but I'd also like to include some more personal posts every now and then.

Anyway, yesterday was my birthday and I posted this picture to my Instagram. It was so cute to log onto twitter and see these balloons every time. I just want to thank everyone who took the time to leave me a message. It really was so kind of you.

I had such a nice day, my boyfriend did a great job of decorating the dining area and spoilt me rotten. We ate croissants and Nutella for breakfast, popped out for some shopping and had Five Guys for lunch (my choice, I'd been craving it for months).

Primark PS Gel Effect Nail Polish Review

Saturday, 16 July 2016

So the other day (Thursday) I popped into town and as usual had a browse around Primark. I picked up a new bag (which I love) and then had a peek at the beauty section. These new nail polishes immediately caught my eye, don't they look amazingly like the newest Nails Inc packaging?

There were 4 colours to chose from but surprisingly I only picked up 3. The fourth colour was a lavender grey I think, it didn't look interesting enough to grab so it stayed in the shop.

The first thing I want to mention about these is the gorgeous colour coordinated lids. They make me very happy, very happy indeed. At £1.50 they're actually on the pricey side for Primark polish (nearly double their usual 80p) so I was expecting an improvement in both formula and brush type.

So... the brush is still the same old cheap plastic. Brilliant! I find the stiff bristles very difficult to work with unless you use super thick coats, not cool in my opinion. The formula seems the same, although applying slightly thicker coats means it reaches full coverage in 2, just give it a little longer to dry. Also these polishes are missing names (come on Primark, I thought we had this issue sorted).

Right, first up is this cornflower blue shade. I used 2 thick coats (to avoid brush strokes) and one coat of topcoat for the swatch below.

Secondly I have this bright mint green. Again 2 thick coats and one coat of topcoat were used for the swatch below.

Lastly I have this neon pink (it's a true neon as it glows under UV light) and wow I loved this colour. The formula is the best of the 3 and although I still needed 2 coats, they were much thinner than the previous. I also added a topcoat for the swatch below.

I took the swatch off before I thought about snapping a picture under the UV lamp so I'm sorry, but you can see from the bottle shot below that it's glowing (it's slightly pinker irl).

My thoughts on these are mixed. I love the packaging and the colours, the formula is reasonable but the plastic brush and missing names are annoyingly frustrating. They're such small details, surely it's not hard to permanently rectify these and ensure all new nail products are rolled out with them as standard? At the cheaper end of the market, you can't beat Primark polishes though and I think it would be completely unreasonable to expect them to live up to my high expectations when you're only paying a fraction of the price.

What do you think of the colours? Are you a fan of Primark beauty products?

You can buy these (and the other shade, possibly more) from Primark stores priced at £1.50 each. I personally will be picking more up next time I'm in a store.

2016 Birthday Wishlist

Tuesday, 12 July 2016

Happy Tuesday everyone, as it's only a week until my birthday I thought I'd do a birthday wishlist post. Now I know this is slightly different for my blog but I love the idea of looking back in years to come and seeing the kind of things I was wanting (and then also the things I got) so if you're not interested in this kind of post, turn off now.

L.O.G Cosmetics - Beautician Collection P1

Sunday, 10 July 2016

PR Sample
Howdy, how are you all on this sunny summery July Sunday? Oh wait, it's not sunny, it hardly feels like summer and yet again my flat feels like an ice box. I honestly don't know what's going on with the weather this year but I'm seriously hoping that it improves.

Today I have a review of 6 out of the 12 L.O.G Cosmetics nail polishes from the 'Beautician Collection'. L.O.G Cosmetic is a new (to me) UK company whose polishes are 5-free and vegan friendly which is amazing.
