Happy sunny Saturday everyone, are you up to anything fun today?
Last night the Rio Olympics kicked off with the opening ceremony, did you catch it on TV? I was in bed long before the footage started but I did catch some of the highlights this morning. I have to admit to hating sports coverage on TV (sorry), but there's something about the Olympics that captures my interest and I can't help but watch it. I love flicking between the different events but my faves have to be the gymnastics, diving, BMX and athletics.
I thought I would honour the occasion by reviewing MeeBox's July 2016 edition today, which they rather cleverly themed around the Rio Olympics.
This box was kindly sent to me by the ever so lovely Marta of Furious Filer aka the MeeBox ambassador. She received a spare box this month and was generous enough to pass it along to me and I can not thank her enough for that. Make sure you pop over and have a look at her review, her nail art this month is stunning.
Included in this months box was 3 bright and bold polishes that correspond to the Brazil flag colours, some nail art stickers and a Tweexy.
Trust Fund Beauty - Demin With Diamonds ($11)
This polish is stunning in the bottle and on the nail. It has a rich cobalt blue jelly base with an aqua style blue shimmer. The bottle is very large (17ml) which is great as I needed 3 coats for full coverage. The only issue I have, is that this polish is sticky. It's slightly tricky to apply and dries quickly which means it tends to clot on the nail. I had to swatch this twice as I messed up on the first go, so my advice is to apply smooth thin coats and let them dry completely before doing the next. Otherwise you'll end up with a thick gloopy nail that will never dry. Saying that, the finished result is worth a little pain as it's a stunning colour.
Morgan Taylor - Later Alligator (£11)
So this is the first time trying Morgan Taylor polishes and I was blown away. Yes it's equal in price to OPI and Leighton Denny, but so is the formula. It applied so silkily that I only needed 1 coat! This green is a typical leaf green colour and it looks so lovely on.
Models Own - Luis Lemon (£4.99)
This neon highlight yellow polish is from Models Own classic 2013 Ice Neon collection (see my Models Own Ice Neon review post here - please forgive the bent nail and awful picture quality). It is not essential that you wear this over a white base, but it is highly recommended as the colour truly pops that way. I applied 1 coat of Luis Lemon over white and was immediately dazzled. This colour is blinding, so use with caution!
Iz Beauty of London Deco It Decals (£4)
A sheet of beautiful jungle themed nail stickers was also included in this months box and these fit the Rio theme perfectly. These style stickers are great for those looking for a quick nail art fix or who haven't got any skills in freehand or stamping techniques (me!). The only downside to these stickers is that they leave a very obvious shine around the edge, you can tell they're stickers on the nail but when they look this pretty, who cares.
A Tweexy for those of you who don't know is a wearable nail polish holder. You place it on your fingers like a ring, thereby safely storing the polish you're using, while applying your mani/pedi. This is something I've seen around on IG and although I like it, during my trial I realised it just not a product for me. I am obviously far too much of a 'twisty' nail painter and found that I was almost spilling polish far too often. The only time I can see this being useful, is when you're sat on the sofa or in bed painting your nails and haven't got a flat surface to pop the bottle down on. Regardless, it was fun to test and I am pleased I had the chance to try it out.
Isn't this month's box stunning? I love the polishes and the variety of brands that pop up in these boxes, I love the stickers and I love being a part of the MeeBox community on IG again (it's been too long). As the RRP of this months box (~£46) far outweighs the £20 subscription cost, I can not highly recommend it enough. You always get great value for your money and isn't it lovely having a surprise pop through your door every month?
Thanks again Marta for passing along this box, I'm so grateful and will aim to pay the good deed forward when I next get some extra bits and bobs together.
If you fancy getting yourself subscribed to MeeBox, their next theme is 'Boho' and as it's the first birthday of MeeBox they've kindly included an extra gift. Sign up here and give yourself and your nails a treat.
