Monthly Favourites - August 2016

Wednesday, 31 August 2016

August has flown by so quickly, it genuinely feels like only last week I was writing my July Monthly Favourites post. I have had such a lovely month and although it has gone quicker than chocolate does in my house, it's so lovely to be one step closer to Autumn and in turn Christmas.

Nail Related Favourites

Favourite nail polish
This month there were a couple of stand out polish favourites for me. Models Own Beach Fire from the new 2016 Polish For Tans collection is a stunner and a great colour for summer and the coming Autumn. My second is from Primark (see my review post here) and it's a beauty, like a serious beauty. Nude from their new A/W range was good to go in 2 coats and it's a bargain at 90p.

Nail art I've created this month
I've tried a little harder this month with nail art, although it's still a relatively small amount compare to some. I started doing a couple of mani swaps this month to help push me and I have a couple of others lined up soon.

Swatches I've done this month
I've had so many gorgeous collections swatched this month including 2 from Models Own. However the stand out swatch for me was the Nails Inc 'Good As Gold' Paint Can, as it was so fun to use.

Favourite blog post I've published
This month my favourite blog post was the Barry M A/W16 product launch. The trip to London, the event, the products and the sneak peak at the new polishes was all very exciting. The Barry M team sure know how to put on a launch party, and from the minute you walk through the door you're spoiled rotten.

Favourite blog posts from other bloggers

Furious Filer - How To: Decals on the Uber Chic Mat.
Marta created one of those blog posts that you wish you'd done yourself. Her 'How to: Decals on the Uber Chic Mat' was equally beautiful and informative. I loved the nail art design she created using her decals, she can do no wrong.

Kimett Kolor - Kimett's 100th Post!
As the title suggests, this was Kimett's 100th blog post, but it was the gorgeous looking smoosh that she created that made me fall in love with it. Her colour combo was delicious and it reminded me of melted ice cream.

Any new nail brands I've discovered
No - oops, not a very experimental month.

Any new nail care products I've discovered
I was sent some Models Own hand cream with their new Dare To Bare collection and this stuff is amazing. I will post a review post on it soon but let me leave you with 3 words to summarise this cream ... Pink/Delicious/Creamy (keep it clean guys and get your mind out the gutter).

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Favourite moment in August
My favourite moment would have to be my friends Hannah and Tim's wedding. I was invited to 2 weddings this year but due to ill health I only made it to one. Something I will always regret but I loved seeing the pictures roll in over facebook.

Favourite food
I've enjoyed a lot of 'Eton Mess' style desserts this month (yes I know it's another pudding favourite, but I do love my puddings!

Favourite song
Mumford & Sons - Snake Eyes
In fact the whole album, 'Wilder Mind' is incredible and I've been playing it most days this month.

Favourite book
Harry Potter and The Cursed Child - there really was not going to be any other book that could fit this category. I scour Pottermore most days for new titbits to read about the wizarding world and I devoured this book in a few hours. It was amazing. Now to get tickets to see the play.

Favourite movie
Far From The Madding Crowd
I was hoping that I could put 'Finding Dory' in this spot, but I've not actually been to see it yet (OMG - I know). Therefore it's going to my fave 'easy like Sunday morning', romance period drama. I can watch this movie on repeat.

Favourite TV show
Great British Bake Off.
We're now 2 episodes in to this years series and I'm as addicted as ever. It's still a little early to call the winner, however I have my faves and like always, they'll be tears when they leave (if they leave).

I'm so looking forward to September, today was slightly cloudy here and I took advantage of that to buy some new Autumn bits (a red jumper, some Chelsea boots and a couple of dark Primark nail polishes).

Hope you all had a great August, what was your favourite moment. Let me know in the comments below.

  1. Oh I love everything about this post!! Such a great idea and really interesting. I have the Harry Potter book but just haven't had the chance to read it yet. In fact, it's all boxed up and ready to be moved to the new house. :)

    1. Thanks Tracy, I know I'll love looking back at these posts and seeing the kind of things I was up to. I'm just glad others enjoy them as well.
When are you moving? Good luck with that. You'll want to read it, it's so good. I am looking forward to reading it again but taking my time. I kinda read it in a hurry the first time.

  3. Really enjoyed this post and reading about your favourites in the world of nails and outside of that too.

Loving your Pop Vinyl characters - my husband has quite few different ones and they are so much fun. What house are you in?

I personally loved all your swatches this month and the fact that you get your hand pose so dead on each time!

    1. Ah thank you, I love looking back on my fave posts (even though it's only been 1) so hopefully I'll carry them on.
My other half has loads too, although they're very superhero focused. So I gave him a list of some Disney/characters I wanted and I got these for my birthday.

Thanks, I love swatching and it's so great to see them all lined up.

  4. I'm super behind in reading blogs....and what an absolute delight in finding this one!! I knew there were nail art designs of yours that I HAD to read more about...and I love these type of round up posts! I was on my way to check out your art made with Rainbow Favorites (my pick of your August arts) and came upon this awesome post. I would have picked the exact same two polishes...we should go into making our own brand. LOL And, what a fun post by Marta! How clever! And that smoosh by Kimett is....oh, wait....that's me!! How fun and lovely it is that you shared this with your readers -- THANK YOU!!!

    PS - I'm really craving pudding now....thanks!! :-P

  5. Omg, that's me AGAIN! I'm so honoured Vicky, thank you so much for including me! You're literally THE person I go to when I look up Models own swatches...and drool. I have to admit, I had the book read the day I got it, in just a few hours. I want to have Christmas dinner in the great hall:(

    1. I can't but love your posts. They're amazing and as soon as I saw your design using the decals, I was in love.
I want all my dinners in the great hall, I'd happily work as a house elf, if it meant I'd live at Hogwarts. *sigh xx
