Monthly Favourites - October 2016

Tuesday, 1 November 2016

Whaaaatttt???!!! How on earth is it November already? How on earth am I sat here writing up my October favourites? This month (like all the other's I've written favourites post for - July / August / September) has gone super quick. However I'm so excited that next month is Christmas, super squee.

Nail Related Favourites

Favourite nail polish
This month it's another double winner as I really couldn't decide between 'Let Your Hair Down' from Leighton Denny's Roaring 20's Collection and Primark's AW16 Gel Effect in 'Feisty'.

Both these polishes are stunning and are individually very unique to my collection. I'm very much in love and have been wearing these to death the last month.

Nail art I've created this month
So this month I took part in #clairestelle8halloween challenge on IG and made myself do lots of independent nail art. I actually went into double digits and completed a grand total of 19 different nail designs (I've only got 17 designs to show you because the other 2 from my MeeBox Pumpkin Spice nail art post, were posed rather oddly and didn't look right, OCD formatting at it's best).

#clairestelle8halloween nail art - my faves are the pumpkins and the bats.

Here's my last mani's GiTD reveal, it's not a great quality image as my camera on my phone freaks out in low light, however you can still see it and that's good enough for me.

Other nail art I've completed in October - my faves are the stamp decal ghosts and pumpkins!

Swatches I've done this month
Like with my nail art, I totally upped my swatching game (yes I just sly smiled at myself, after last month (see September faves) I'm feeling rather proud). In the collage below I have only put those swatches which I've either blogged about or shown on my IG account. Behind the scenes I have around 12 other swatches ready to go, so keep an eye out next month (actually this month) for them.

Yes I know I've not done as many as I thought (see my Autumnal Nail Mail & Haul post), however those I've missed are coming up in November.

Favourite blog post I've published
So this month I manged to post every other day, something that hasn't happened in a very long time here on The Polish List. As a result I have far too many to pick between and consequently I've been changing my mind a lot. However I think it has to be the review of Barry M's AW16 Coconut Infusion Collection.

The reason I picked this is because I had so much fun styling the photos with the coconut and autumnal leaves, that and the fact the colours were incredible.

Favourite blog posts from other bloggers

A Nail Polish Addiction - TAG / Breast Cancer Awareness
This was such a lovely post and I especially enjoyed the fact it was chock a block full of pink polish. Hayley did a great job at narrowing down her pinks and I also saw a couple I need to pick up. I joined in with this TAG and you can view my top 10 pink polishes for Breast Cancer awareness here.

Coewless Nail Polish Blog - NOTD Coraline
Eva is a magician when it comes to nail art and these Coraline nails are stunning. She did an incredible job with all the characters, but my favourite has to be Other Wybie, his button eyes are perfect.

Any new nail brands I've discovered
Thanks to MeeBox's Pumpkin Spice box, I managed to try both C&E Clementine and Nude No1 by Lauren B Lacquer and later in the month I was sent some Annika nail colours to try from The Edge Nails.

Any new nail care products I've discovered
I've been wracking my brains for this one and don't think I have.

I can't let this month pass without mentioning a couple of things. Firstly a certain #worldpastaday manicure I created. I have never had a manicure create a stir quite like these did on IG, and although not everyone understood or 'got' why I stuck bits of spaghetti to my nails (why read captions hey!), it was fun to see the response all the same.

What I find even more funny is I very nearly didn't post these nails and when I did I thought I'd get a few 'pity' likes from my current followers :)

Secondly this is the month I finally put in some serious hours and started stamping - yay. Can you believe it's taken me this many years? Well I'm finally on my way to being a nail stamper and with a little more practice I know I'll get a few issues straightened out.

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Favourite moment in October
In October I had a whole week off and enjoyed every moment. I decorated the house for halloween which was lovely, however there was one lovely day where I woke up early and took myself off to IKEA to grab a 4th Helmer. I also met up with my family for lunch and finished the day off with a long luxiourious bath. It's these kind of days that I love and I can still remember how cosy and warm the whole day made me feel.

Favourite food
I wait for October to roll around every year because Kipling release their Fiendish Fancies and I totally love them. Over the month I picked up 5 boxes (I have 3 left to get me through November/December) because when these delicious orange cakes are gone, it's another year until I can have them again!

I also made some chocolate crispy cakes this month (how amazing are these things!). I hadn't made these in years and I'm not sure why, they took minutes and tasted amazing.

Favourite song
Freedom by Beyonce has been my go to tune this month, it's so motivating. I blast this as I drive to work, while I shower, as I clean the house, in fact at any time I need to boost my energy levels. Beyonce - you are amazing!

Favourite book
I have been loving Meik Wiking's 'The Little Book of HYGGE - The Danish Way To Live Well'. What's really interesting from reading this, is that I'm a total hygge nerd and never realised it. It's the perfect book to pick up and while reading through the sections I've been examining what really makes me happy, it's been an education.

Favourite movie
As it's been the month of Halloween this goes out to all my spooky faves - 'A Nightmare Before Christmas' 'Hocus Pocus' 'The Witches' and 'Coraline'. Spot the Fiendish Fanices! :)

Favourite TV show
Victoria (now finished) and Poldark. Yes I know it's another double winner but as both of these shows have been getting me through that dreaded Sunday night downer for the last 7/8 weeks I had to mention them. I love a good period drama and am looking forward to 'The Crown' starting on Netflix in a couple of days (fingers crossed it's good),

So there we are, I love rounding up my month and reflecting on all my favourite things. Please let me know your favourites from October, especially if they're the same as mine. I am so excited we're now in November, I've had the Home Alone soundtrack on while typing this and have picked up lots of fun Christmas bits in B&M & Sainsbury's this morning (including a Christmas countdown elf - it's 52 days if you're interested).

  2. So many things to love in this post! I don't even know where to begin. I love all the nail art you did - especially that glow in the dark mani. You did a great job photographing it. GITD is so hard to capture.

I love that you decorated your house for Halloween. Part of me wanted to do ours but then it was too much effort lol. I'll save that energy for birthday decorations for Miss Olivia and then Christmas :)

    1. Thanks Tracy, I agree that GiTD is very hard to capture. My camera kept throwing up lots of strange red lines across the images.
Although I didn't have a party, I felt like decorating the house, it was a stop gap before decorating for Christmas, I actually can't wait.
You'll def be seeing a lot more Christmas themed pictures in my Nov faves.

  5. So fun to see you able to create and publish so much!! It's truly enjoyable to feel the enthusiasm! You know I've loved all the nail art on IG...my fave is still those pumpkins, but I'm very impressed with your GITD design - it works so well in both "lights". And, again, really enjoy these round-up posts... ;)
