Essie Gel Couture Ballet Nude - Review & Swatches

PR Sample

Happy Thursday, have you had any snow where you are? We've had a little bit, but mostly it's been raining and to say I'm unhappy is a slight understatement. I so wanted to build some little snowmen and then come home and have a deep hot bath with a steaming mug of hot chocolate.

Today on my blog I have a review of some gorgeous Essie gel couture shades. There are 6 in the full 'Ballet Nudes' collection and I was kindly sent 3 of them (I have to get the rest though, I'm obsessed).

I hadn't tried any of the Gel Couture range before, I believe it launched in 2016 and was a massive hit, thanks in part to the perfectly instagrammable bottles, Essie has definitely created a blinder of a bottle design here. As you can imagine I was keen to see what the fuss was about.

I wasn't disappointed.

This gel like polish has a beautifully buttery formula that slid onto my nail like cuticle oil, and application was aided by the most perfect of flat brushes. I needed only 2 coats for each colour, drying time was standard and they all dried to a smooth shine, to finish I added a topcoat. Although I haven't tested the wear time, Essie have said it can last up to 14 days, however proper application, a topcoat and continued care will be needed to ensure it lasts.

Lace Me Up
This pale rose pink has a slight peachy tint and is really pretty. This is just the shade I think off when ballet is mentioned.

Perfect Posture
This powdery periwinkle blue is super soft and in some lights leans a little grey.

Closing Night
This storm grey has a very sparkly blue shimmer and the combination makes for a truly beautiful polish.

Out of these 3 I think my favourite has to be Perfect Posture. I even used it as a base for some nail art recently and know I will reach for it many times before Spring hits.

If you're interested in the Gel Couture Ballet Nude collection, they will be on sale from 20th January from your local stockist (find it here) priced at £9.99 each.

What do you think of these polishes? Let me know your favourite in the comments below.

  2. You have me sold -- I must get some!! (Must go see if these are available here too...I'm often "saved" by your beautiful swatches because they are of polishes not sold here, but this time my wallet is crying. LOL) And those bottles are just perfectly photograph worthy!! Love the art, as I noted on IG -- and agree with you that shade of pale blue is lovely!!

    1. Yay, if only I was on commission (well I'd be broke but haha). Pale blue is the colour I'm massively leaning toward this month (well this week anyway). Thanks so much for always taking the time to comment, I appreciate it xx

  4. ARgh! Dammit, these are really pretty. I keep being intrigued by the shape of the bottles in Superdrug - they feel so nice to hold. But they seem so pricey!

    1. They are so lovely & although they're a slightly higher price point, they're such a great gift to yourself. Sometimes we have to treat ourselves!
