Monthly Favourites - February 2017

Wednesday, 1 March 2017

Another month of 2017 done (see my January 2017 monthly favourites here) and although February was a short month, it flew by and I can't believe that tomorrow will be March already.

Nail Related Favourites

Favourite nail polish
I have such a difficult decision to make this month as there are so many gorgeous polishes to chose from. In the end I decided on 2, Essie's Prima Bella (see my review of the Return To Retro collection here) and Jessica Nails Bare It All (see my review of the Silhouette collection here).

Jessica Nails Bare It All from their Silhouette Collection
What's been your favourite polish this month?

Nail art I’ve created this month
I managed to create exactly the same number of designs as last month, although 14 is still too low for my liking and I aim to create 20+ in March, after all I love nail art some much.

My #clairestelle8feb manis

My other nail art manis

I am not sure what my favourite is, but I'd love to know yours.

Swatches I’ve done this month
Another busy month and 33 swatches done (that I've published). Next month I have lots of gel nail polishes coming your way as well as lots of amazing normal polishes.

Favourite blog post I’ve published this month
I have loved so many of the posts I've published this month but I think my Barry M Spring Launches - 2017 Edition post is my ultimate fave. I love seeing new collections released and Barry M is no exception, the event was beautiful and I already adore the matte liquid lipsticks. I am very excited for the new Molten Metals to be released in April.

Favourite blog post from other bloggers
Any new nail brands I’ve discovered this month
This month there's a massive list; I've tried nail polishes from SensatioNAILS (review coming next month), Roxanne Campbell and Maggie Anne.

I've also tried some new nail art products from Stephen Arnold, who sells the most beautiful Swarovski crystals and some angelic looking glitter from The Edge Nails (see it used in my 26 GNAI - Blue Floral post).

Any new nail care items I’ve discovered this month
I have been using and loving Models Own Rose Scented nail polish remover.

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Favourite moment in February
There have been lots of lovely family moments in February, my sister came to stay which always means the world to me and I saw my mum, dad, niece and nephews. However I think the stand out moment for me was Valentines morning when I swapped cards and gifts with my boyfriend. We've been together for 11 years now and as we officially got together in February (we met in December), it's also meaningful for that reason.

I love that we both picked up boat/Venice themed cards (we love visiting that city)

I was lucky enough to get the illustrated Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets book, a giant bag of mini eggs and a gorgeous bunch of flowers. I bought my boyfriend some beer and beer related bits, like glasses etc as he has a beer blog called Southcoast Barbells and Beer and I know that they'd be very well appreciated.

Favourite food
As well as valentines, February is known for pancake day (the only day in the year I'd usually eat pancakes as a child) and this month I have really enjoyed eating lots of pancakes.

My favourites are american style pancakes with white chocolate chips, although I do also love the traditional crepe style pancakes that my family always cooked on pancake day, either covered in Nutella or just sprinkled with sugar. Oh and I have another cute new Matalan mug, this bunny is perfect and will be getting lots of use as we move into the Easter themed months.

Favourite song
Quite often I pop a random spotify playlist on while I'm blogging as I find TV very distracting and it's also a great way to discover new music. While I was listening to one at the beginning of the month I came across Kaleo - Way Down We Go and since then I've been listening to that song all the time.

It also appears on one of the trailers for the new movie 'Logan' which I am so excited to watch, that and the new Beauty and The Beast movie.

Favourite book
This has to go to the beautiful illustrated version of Harry Potter and The Camber of Secrets, which I recieved as a gift for Valentines. Yes I have the original books but the drawings in these versions are amazing and it really adds to the story. I have to admit I didn't re-read the book this month, but I have spent plenty of time flicking through it. It's the perfect present.

Favourite movie
I have managed to catch up on a few movies I've wanted to watch that came out last year, including X-Men Apocalypse and Alice Through The Looking Glass. I also watched 50 Shades Darker, which I thought was crap, the story didn't flow and it just seemed to jaggedly go from one scene to another. It's a shame as although I didn't find the first movie amazing, it was enjoyable.

However this month the movie I loved the most was Star Trek Beyond, another catch up movie, but one I have been wanting to watch for ages. If you've not seen it but enjoyed the previous 2 Star Trek movies, you need to watch it, it's brilliant.

Favourite TV show
Reign series 4 is back which I am very happy about, i'm very sad it's the last series but I will enjoy it while it lasts. I also watched Medici on netflix which was good. I'd love to know if you have any suggestions of series I should watch, what have you been enjoying this month.

So how has your February been? I had a good month and enjoyed designing some festive valentines nail art, swatching for lots of brands and creating new blog relationships with some amazing companies.

As I move into March I hope to focus more on nail art as well as changing up my blog content a little. I love swatching and reviewing collections and I have loads of fun polishes to show you, but I'd like to include some other posts, so let me know in the comments below if there's anything specific you'd like to see.

  2. Oh my gosh, the googly eyed mani is my favorite, too! I don't think I'd ever wear it, because it seems like it would get in the way, but I sure do love looking at it! Also, I'm currently reading that very edition of Harry Potter book 2 with my son, ha ha! It really has beautiful illustrations.

    1. Thank you Rachel, I love them too but agree they're not practical in any way. However some manis are created purely for the photo & these are a prime example.
Glad you also love the book, is your son enjoying it? It's such an amazing book xx

The pancakes were amazing, I wish I could eat more but unfortunately there's no diet that allows pancakes every day :( xx

  5. Lovely post Vicky! Really enjoyed reading through your monthly favoruties, I'm so happy to have discovered your blog :) OMG it seems we have the same taste when it comes to movies & drama series! I LOVED Medici, only gutted it was such a short season! I'm watching Reign too but I miss Francis too much so am actually watching it from the beginning again haha! I'm currently watching Borgias on Netflix too (loved the Jeremy Irons version) it takes a while to get in to but its good! I think you will also like The Last Kingdom too!

    1. Thanks so much Aysh, I've just followed your blog because no doubt it'll be amazing. We do seem to like so much of the same tv, I've been meaning to watch Borgias (and Last Kingdom) so I'll def give it a go now.
I also agree that Reign isn't the same without Francis, it's so sad he had to go so early. I'm very interested to see how this series plays out now.

I seem to like lists of the same films as you! Love love love going to the cinema! We've just watched Designated Survivor on Netflix, it was brilliant and there's new episodes coming on Thursday!

    Great post as always x

    1. Thank you, I really didn't think people liked these posts but I'm glad you do as I love writing them. I haven't watched designated survivor but will add it to the list, thanks! xx

  7. Ooh...love these posts. I have no idea how you could pick just 2 favorite polishes...there were so many beauties, but that lovely nude from Jessica calls my wallet. I think my favorite of your nail art is the black & white love, and second would be the pink & purple flower skittle. I'm looking forward to hear your thoughts on Sensationail. I'm not a plain pancake fan, but back when I could eat them (and sugar) I always loved chocolate with or without peanut butter...never had white chocolate though, I bet they were as delicious as they look! For some music & TV show ideas, TY. ;)

  8. I really enjoy these posts. My favourite mani you did was the blue and white one with the loose glitter on the ring finger, that is just so stunning. Congratulations on 11 years with your partner. I also met my husband in December and got together in the February. We've just celebrated 9 years xx
