Monthly Favourites - July 2017

Wednesday, 16 August 2017

I have taken my time in getting around to writing this post for many reasons; mainly it feels weird wrapping up a month, which for me will always be tinged in sadness (for the rest of my life). However I know that I'll want to remember it and for continuity reasons, I want to have this post on my blog, so here I go.

It's funny because I stormed the start of July, I had so many amazing posts written and was ready to really embrace my blogging self. I also had so many nail art designs created (which I haven't posted) and lots of mani swaps lined up, however they took a back seat as of the 13th of July.

Nail Related Favourites

Favourite nail polish
Although I only swatched 24 polishes this month, I have 3 favourites. Firstly the Princess Nail Lacquer 'Nothing But Flakies' Duo are incredible, these polishes are some of the most interesting and gorgeous I have swatched for a while. The last favourite is Models Own One Night Stand mirror chrome polish, this is such an unusual polish but def one of my faves.

Nail art I’ve created this month
Like I said in the intro, I've actually got a couple more nail art designs created, but I never got round to posting. So my total nail art designs this month is - 2! A mani swap I did with Bethany of B Nailed To Perfection and a tropical design I created using Models Own Aquaproof collection. There really is nothing more to say apart from oh well, I'm sure I'll get my nail art flow back at some point.

Swatches I’ve done this month
Swatch wise I managed to get 24 polishes swatched and up on my blog. I have a massive backlog now to catch up on and will endevour to get them done asap.

Favourite blog post I’ve published this month
If I had been able to have more favourites, the whole Carnival Collection from Sparklea would have made it. However it's definitely my favourite blog post, the colours, the formula ... in fact everything about these polishes is amazing.

Any new nail brands I’ve discovered this month
I was lucky enough to be sent some lovely Glam Polish polishes and as it was my first time trying this brand out, it's only fitting that I mention it here. Glam Polish's 'Made in Manehattan' collection is a pastel, shimmery wonder.

Any new nail care items I’ve discovered this month
Yes, but nothing I've posted about so I'll keep quiet until I post about them.

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Memorable moment in July
I've changed this from favourite moment to memorable moment, as I want to quickly and sensitively chat about my dad. On Thursday the 13th of July, my dad's heart failed him at around 10.26pm, he was taken to hospital by ambulance and was placed in ICU. Over the next 36 hours he deteriorated as one by one his organs failed and on Saturday the 15th July, my family was called in and told he was dying. I cannot tell you how exhausting it is having false hope and after 36 hours of it, I was drained mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. After a quick discussion and although it broke our hearts, we decided that the kindest thing to do was sit with my dad as his life support was turned off (we could have left him, but he would have passed anyway and we wanted to be with him).

He 'passed' away at 11.35am after 20ish minutes of being off life support. He was so poorly and so weak, and as I watched his heart rate decrease and decrease, I held his tiny hand, kissed his cool skin and cried like I've never cried before.

My dad really was the most amazing dad and when he died, he took a piece of my heart with him. I cannot express in words just how much his passing has bothered me, however now he has been laid to rest, the hard part begins and I'm dreading it. I will mention him again in my August Favourites, but until then, please treasure your loved ones. Time is precious and you really have no idea when your last moments with them will be.

Favourite food
In a month tainted by grief, I have heavily relied on carbs. Pasta, cake and bread have been my best friends. This chocolate cake I had one afternoon with my sister Sophie was the most delicious thing I have tasted. Especially as it came after a morning of clearing, sorting and dump runs.

Favourite song
I have done a lot of driving this month and this has allowed me to listen to hours of radio. Two songs that have become firm favourites are Despacito by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber and Malibu by Miley Cyrus. Yes they're both very mainstream but they're also both bloody amazing!!

Favourite book
I haven't read anything of note this month.

Favourite movie
While I sorted out everything after my dad's passing, I stayed at his place with my sister Sophie and we would watch movies every night. Although I never rated this movie when I watched it originally, Inside Out is my favourite for this month. The dream scene made us both chuckle and we laughed so hard. For that alone, Inside Out deserves a mention.

Favourite TV show
I have 3 words for you - GAME OF THRONES! This was one of the highlights of July and something I looked forward to every week (and still do). I have also watched some of Outlander Series 2 and started watching the series Salem on netflix back at the start of July.

July 2017 will not be a month I look back on fondly, however it is a month that still requires acknowledgement. Until my August favourites everyone, I sincerely hope your July was better than mine.

Vicky xx

    1. Thank you my lovely lovely friend. Nails are a massive distraction and the repetitive nature of swatching is very soothing. Plus it's nice to have an aim & something to do xx

Dad is being very good, you wouldn't even know he was here! I can't describe how much I miss him. I'm slowly beginning to realise it's real & the pain and emptiness makes me stop & I go back to my denial stage. I can't bare the thought of him being gone xxx
