Monthly Favourites - September 2017

Sunday, 1 October 2017

Happy October the 1st and horray for the start of the festive period. That's right, October is officially the month of Halloween, then we've got bonfire night and immediately after, it's the start of Christmas. Oh and if you don't agree, maybe we need to break up, because I'm not sure I need friends in my life who don't completely, over the top-ly embrace every wonder the AW season has to offer.

That's right, if you don't buy pointless but ever so needed halloween/christmas mech, clothing, mugs, hair accessories, watch lots of themed movies and decorate your house until it looks like something from a disney movie, then it's goodbye. I promise it's not you it's me (it's totally you) and have a fun life.

But before I get carried away, we need to summarise and say goodbye to September. As you all know I lost my precious dad in July and it's almost unbelievable to me that I've survived 11 weeks without him. The pain is raw, it physically burns and no matter how wonderful my day has been, I still end up shedding a few tears whenever I think of him.

Now I have a point to all this, I've let myself be taken over by my grief in September and as this new, beautiful month dawns, I'm drawing a line and starting a fresh. I wouldn't say I became depressed but I certainly slowed down, took more naps than usual and didn't bother that hard with any part of my life. I also can't say I'm moving on, but I'm going to be putting extra effort into making the most of each day in October.

Favourite nail polish
This is such a difficult choice, especially as I've swatched a lot of gorgeous colours. So to make it slightly easier, I am going to choose 2. The first is Night Of The Living Dummy from Sparklea Nail Polish's Goosebumps Collection and the second is Bonfire Night from Princess Nail Lacquer's Autumn 2017 Collection.

Nail art I’ve created this month
Oh dear, like I said, I ended up neglecting a lot, despite my best intentions.

Swatches I’ve done this month
As usual I have swatched a lot but again, never got around to posting as much as I should have. However I did post 20 swatches, 75% of which is Princess Nail Lacquer. However I already have a couple of posts sorted for the month ahead and plan on making sure I post my reviews as soon as I swatch a polish.

Favourite blog post I’ve published this month
Unusually I'm going to give my favourite blog post of September to my last favourites post. August was a very tough month and despite how I felt, I managed to find the strength to get some of it down and continually blogging. I know in years to come I'll look back on these posts and be glad I recorded some of the more mundane, but I'll also be glad I recorded the more momentous occasions too.

Favourite blog post from other bloggers
Again, this is another area of my nail blogging life I let slip.

Non-Nail Related Favourites

Favourite moment in September
On September the 22nd, it was the 1st official day of Autumn. I got my hair cut and took a lovely walk around the common. I remember it so vividly because it was sunny, warm but there also a hint of autumnal-ness about the day. Since then it's definitely become autumnal, the days are colder, the rain stings and both the mornings and evenings are darker. It's perfect.

Favourite food
Although I have eaten loads of jacket potatoes, I have also been making soups. Cooking is something I enjoy and it's so easy to knock up a homemade soup. My favourite of this month is a spicy minestrone.

Favourite song
Wait by M83 and Don't Forget About Me by Cloves.

Favourite book
Similarly to last month, I have been reading a lot of Pratchett. However I have been rereading the Tiffany Aching novels and really enjoyed Wintersmith and most recently I Shall Wear Midnight. I am currently reading the last in the Tiffany Aching series and coincidentally the last Discworld book that Pratchett ever wrote.

Favourite movie
I don't know if I have ever mentioned this as a favourite before, but it really is an amazing movie. Mona Lisa Smile makes me feel all warm inside and I must have watched it a handful of times in September. Like a child I seek solace in the known, comfort in repetition and will no doubt put this movie on many more times during October.

Favourite TV show
I am so glad Victoria is back on the telly, Sunday night is not the same without some kind of period drama to snuggle up to, this series is amazing and I never want it to end. X Factor is also back on our screen and although I didn't watch many of the live shows last year, I do enjoy the audition rounds. A good friend of mine also mentioned that it's nice to have something on the telly that feels like a Saturday night show and I couldn't agree more.

So there we are, another month of 2017 done, another favourites post written (on time might I add) and another chance to start a fresh. I really want to ensure that October is full of lots of blogging, lots of halloween nail art and more importantly, lots of lovely times with my family and friends.

I hope you have all had an amazing September. Let me know what your favourites are and what you're looking forward to in October.

Vicky xx

  2. Sometimes you just need to take a bit of time - sending hugs.

I love Mona Lisa Smile, I love the way she cares so passionately for all of her students.

Autumn is my favourite season! Love love love it! There’s nothing better than the beautiful colours all around and being able to snuggle up on the sofa in the evenings. I came across a great recipe for a Mexican soup and I can see me making it a lot over the autumn and winter.

    1. Thanks, it's sometimes so hard to get started again once you've allowed yourself some down time. The movie is amazing and I just love the girls lives, so different and all the clothes and hair are gorgeous.
Mexican Soup sounds fab, I will need to search that recipe out xx
